This year all films were made available for free to facilitate the pivot to digital. The Festival is a treasured cultural gem amongst documentary enthusiasts, so we are excited to team up with the Influence team to use the additional screening as special fundraising screening for Encounters, to ensure it can carry on bringing audiences the films they want to see this year and next!
The Influence team had this to say “Covid-19 has been an impossible time for many South African institutions, but culture seems to have been a complete afterthought. As artists, musicians and filmmakers struggle their way through the pandemic, support mechanisms are few and far between. For almost a quarter of a century, Encounters has been showcasing vital documentary films for local audiences. It is too great a resource to lose.”
